Joshua M. Auxier is a litigator with more than two decades of experience representing clients in professional liability, directors and officers liability, and general liability matters. He is retained by some of the country’s most prominent insurance companies to defend their insureds: accountants, actuaries, engineers, insurance brokers and agents, lawyers, and other professionals, as well as directors and officers of corporate and nonprofit boards.  He handles general liability matters for large, self-insured companies and regularly represents condominium boards and their members directly or under their insurance policies.

Josh is an assertive defense attorney who approaches cases from a strong offensive posture. He conducts extensive research to ensure a complete understanding of the full scope of his matters, potential liability, and possible exposure, as well as to uncover strategies that will provide optimal results for his clients. He resolves cases through motion practice, summary judgments, settlements, mediation, arbitration, and trials.

Josh partners with his clients to learn about their businesses, what drives their decisions, and how they define success. He delves into their business and personal goals, providing pragmatic advice and counsel to advance both.

Unique to Josh is his determination to look for unique case law to develop the strongest defense possible. A seasoned attorney with an impressive breadth of experience, Josh strives to create novel strategies and provide added value to his clients. He prides himself on being resolute but nimble in his strategic approach to cases, knowing when to pivot and change direction for the benefit of his client. One of his most notable results was a defense verdict on behalf of a defendant in the KLEEN Energy explosion in Middletown. By using the litigation privilege doctrine, he also recently obtained dismissal of a case against an attorney who was sued by a disgruntled opponent.

Josh is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, and the Hispanic Bar Association, and a former chair of the Directors & Officers Claims Committee of the Professional Liability Defense Federation. He has been selected for inclusion in Connecticut Super Lawyers and Super Lawyers Rising Stars and was named to the inaugural class of the Connecticut Law Tribune’s “New Leaders in Law” for his exceptional work on behalf of his clients.
